Problem

A ball is thrown from ground level with a speed of 20 m s−120\,\text{m s}^{-1} at an angle of 30∘30^\circ above the horizontal. Consider the following quantities measured during its flight: (i) Speed of the ball, (ii) Velocity of the ball, (iii) Horizontal component of velocity, (iv) Time of flight, (v) Range of the projectile, (vi) Kinetic energy of the ball at the highest point. (a) Classify each of the above quantities as a scalar or a vector, giving one reason for each classification. (b) For the instant just after projection, find the horizontal and vertical components of the velocity of the ball. (Retain numerical answers up to two decimal places.)
