Problem

While setting up an experiment to study potential difference, a learner makes the following connections: • A lamp, an ammeter and a switch are connected in parallel to the battery. • A voltmeter is connected with its positive terminal to the negative terminal of the battery and its negative terminal to one end of the lamp. • The other end of the lamp is left unconnected to the voltmeter. (i) List any three specific mistakes present in this circuit arrangement. (ii) Redraw the entire circuit correctly, showing proper connections of the ammeter, voltmeter, lamp, switch and battery. Use standard symbols. (iii) For each mistake identified in part (i), explain why the connection is incorrect and how your corrected circuit removes the error, with reference to measuring potential difference and current accurately.
