Problem

Two identical communication satellites A and B are moving in separate circular orbits around the Earth. Satellite A is at a distance of 8.0×106 m8.0\times10^{6}\,\text{m} from the Earth’s centre, while satellite B is at 1.6×107 m1.6\times10^{7}\,\text{m} from the centre. (i) Obtain the ratio of their orbital speeds vA:vBv_A : v_B. (ii) Calculate the numerical values of vAv_A and vBv_B. Use GME=3.986×1014 N m2 ⁣/kgGM_E = 3.986\times10^{14}\,\text{N\,m}^2\!\text{/kg}. (iii) Find the ratio of their orbital periods TA:TBT_A : T_B.
