Problem

Oil of density 850 kg/m3850\,\text{kg/m}^3 flows steadily through a horizontal pipeline. At a point where the pipe diameter is 4.0 cm4.0\,\text{cm}, the oil speed is 3.0 m/s3.0\,\text{m/s} and the pressure is 1.8×105 Pa1.8 \times 10^{5}\,\text{Pa}. Downstream, the pipe widens to a diameter of 8.0 cm8.0\,\text{cm} and ends in a flat circular plate that stops the flow, bringing the oil to rest. Neglect any height difference between the two sections. Calculate the net force exerted on the plate by the oil.
