Problem

Two cars, A and B, are moving on the same straight road. Car A has mass 800 kg800\,\text{kg} and is travelling at 20 m/s20\,\text{m/s}. Car B has mass 1200 kg1200\,\text{kg} and is travelling at 15 m/s15\,\text{m/s}. (i) Calculate the kinetic energy of each car. (ii) Find the ratio KEAKEB\dfrac{KE_A}{KE_B} in its simplest form. (iii) Car B now increases its speed until its kinetic energy becomes equal to that of car A, while its mass remains unchanged. Determine the new speed of car B. (iv) If instead car A wishes to have double its present kinetic energy without changing its mass, what speed must it attain?
