Problem

A two-loop circuit shares a 3.0 Ω resistor R_s. In the left loop a 12 V battery and a 2.0 Ω resistor are in series with R_s. In the right loop an unknown battery 𝔈_x and a 5.0 Ω resistor are in series with the same R_s. Clockwise currents of 3.0 A in the left loop and 1.0 A in the right loop are observed. Determine the emf (including its sign) of the unknown battery 𝔈_x.
