Problem

Let f(x)=x3−3ax2+3a2xf(x)=x^{3}-3a x^{2}+3a^{2}x where aa is a non–zero real parameter. (a) Show that x=ax=a is a critical point of ff. (b) Obtain f′′(a)f''(a) in terms of aa and determine the nature of the critical point x=ax=a for (i) a>0a>0 and (ii) a<0a<0. (c) Find the local extreme value of ff at x=ax=a in each of the above cases. (d) For a>0a>0, find any other critical point(s) of ff, classify them, and state the intervals on which ff is increasing or decreasing.
