Problem

The species Al3+^{3+}, Mg2+^{2+}, Na+^{+}, and Ne are isoelectronic. Using the atomic numbers (13, 12, 11, and 10, respectively) and the following measured radii: Al3+^{3+} = 54 pm, Mg2+^{2+} = 72 pm, Na+^{+} = 102 pm, Ne = 160 pm, rank the four species from greatest to least in terms of the electrostatic attraction experienced by an outermost electron. Provide a brief justification for your ordering.
