Problem

A fixed quantity of an ideal gas initially occupies Vi=0.010 m3V_i = 0.010\,\text{m}^3 at Ti=300 KT_i = 300\,\text{K} under a constant external pressure of 1.5×105 Pa1.5\times10^{5}\,\text{Pa}. The gas is slowly heated at this pressure until its temperature reaches 450 K450\,\text{K}. (i) Obtain an expression for the final volume VfV_f of the gas in terms of ViV_i, TiT_i, and TfT_f. (ii) Calculate the numerical value of VfV_f. (iii) Derive an expression for the work done by the gas during this heating process in terms of ViV_i and VfV_f, and compute its value. (iv) Would the amount of work done change if the gas were neon instead of oxygen while all other conditions remained the same? Give a reason for your answer.
