Problem

A particle is released from a height h=400 mh = 400\text{ m}. Due to the wind, the particle gathers a horizontal velocity component vx=ayv_x=ay, where a=5 s−1a=\sqrt{5}\text{ s}^{-1} and yy is the vertical displacement of the particle from the point of release. Take g=10 m/s2g=10\text{ m/s}^2. Find: (1) The horizontal drift of the particle when it strikes the ground. (2) The speed with which the particle strikes the ground.
