Problem

A particle moves in the xx-yy plane. Its initial velocity and acceleration are u=(4i^+8j^) m/s\mathbf{u}=(4\hat{i}+8\hat{j})\,\text{m/s} and a=(2i^−4j^) m/s2\mathbf{a}=(2\hat{i}-4\hat{j})\,\text{m/s}^2, respectively. Its initial coordinates are (4 m,10 m)(4\,\text{m},10\,\text{m}). Find: (a) The time when the particle crosses the xx-axis. (b) The xx-coordinate of the particle at this instant. (c) The velocity of the particle at this instant.
