Problem

A cricket ball is thrown vertically upward from ground level with a speed of 30 m s−130\,\text{m s}^{-1}. Neglect air resistance and take the acceleration due to gravity g=9.8 m s−2g = 9.8\,\text{m s}^{-2} directed downward. (i) Calculate the time taken by the ball to reach its highest point. (ii) Determine the maximum height reached above the point of projection. (iii) Find the speed of the ball 2 s after it is thrown. (iv) Compute the total time of flight until the ball returns to the thrower’s hand.
