Problem

A long straight vertical conductor carries a current of 20 A upward. A second straight conductor 0.15 m in length is kept horizontally 5 cm east of the vertical wire so that the entire length of the second conductor is parallel to the ground and carries a current of 3 A directed from south to north. Answer the following: (i) Calculate the magnitude of the magnetic field produced by the vertical conductor at the location of the horizontal conductor. (ii) Using your result from part (i), determine the magnitude and direction of the force acting on the horizontal conductor.
