Problem

Two singly charged ions, A and B, enter the space between identical horizontal capacitor plates with the same horizontal speed v0v_0. The plates are 5.0 cm long, separated by 6.0 mm, and produce a uniform upward electric field of 2.0×104 N/C2.0\times10^{4}\,\text{N/C}. Ion A has mass 2.0×10−26 kg2.0\times10^{-26}\,\text{kg}; ion B has mass 5.0×10−26 kg5.0\times10^{-26}\,\text{kg}. Both ions start midway between the plates. Determine the ratio yAyB\dfrac{y_A}{y_B} of their vertical deflections upon leaving the plates.
