Problem

A heating element is designed to be used on a 220 V220\,\text{V} mains supply. For safety reasons the current through it must not exceed 8 A8\,\text{A}. (i) Determine the maximum electrical power that can be safely dissipated in the element. (ii) Calculate the minimum resistance the element should have so that the current limit is not exceeded at 220 V220\,\text{V}. (iii) The element is operated at this maximum safe power for 66 hours each day over 3030 days. If electrical energy costs Rs. 66 per kWh, find the total cost of operating the element for the month.
