Problem

A block of mass m=4 kgm = 4\,\text{kg} rests on a rough incline making an angle 32∘32^{\circ} with the horizontal. A force PP is applied parallel to the plane and directed up the slope. (i) Taking the coefficient of static friction as 0.450.45, find the range of values of the applied force PP for which the block remains at rest. (ii) The force PP is set to the minimum value that just starts moving the block up the plane and is then kept constant. If the coefficient of kinetic friction is 0.300.30, determine the acceleration of the block immediately after motion begins. (iii) Using the acceleration obtained in part (ii), calculate the distance moved by the block in the first 2 s2\,\text{s} after it starts moving.
