Problem

A titration is carried out to determine the concentration of an acetic acid solution. A 25.00 mL25.00\,\text{mL} aliquot of the acid is titrated with 0.1220 M0.1220\,\text{M} NaOH. Because the analyst adds titrant too quickly near the end, the indicator changes color after an excess of 0.35 mL0.35\,\text{mL} NaOH has already been delivered. Answer the following questions. Assume acetic acid is monoprotic. (a) The total volume of NaOH delivered at the end point is 27.18 mL27.18\,\text{mL}. Using this value, calculate the *uncorrected* molarity of the acetic acid. (b) Correct the calculation from part (a) by accounting for the 0.35 mL0.35\,\text{mL} of excess NaOH. Report the *true* molarity of the acetic acid. (c) Determine the percent error introduced by the end-point overshoot, using the corrected value from part (b) as the accepted value.
