Problem

A uniform thin rod of length 0.80 m0.80\,\text{m} and mass 2.0 kg2.0\,\text{kg} is to be rotated about an axis perpendicular to the rod and passing through a point 0.20 m0.20\,\text{m} from its centre. (i) Derive an expression for the moment of inertia II of a uniform rod of length LL and mass MM about an axis perpendicular to the rod and passing through a point at a distance aa from its midpoint. (ii) Using the expression obtained in part (i), calculate the numerical value of II for the given rod.
