A fixed resistor is to be connected directly across a 12 V battery whose internal resistance may be neglected. The resistor is specified to dissipate no more than 4.0 W of power.
(i) Calculate the minimum resistance value that satisfies the power specification when the resistor is connected across the battery.
(ii) If two identical resistors of the value obtained in part (i) are connected in parallel across the same 12 V battery, determine the power dissipated in each resistor. State whether the power rating of each resistor will be exceeded.
(iii) Three identical resistors of the value found in part (i) are now connected in series across a 24 V battery. Determine the power dissipated in each resistor and comment on whether their power ratings are respected.
