Problem

Two identical portable hydraulic jacks, Jack P and Jack Q, have the same input piston area of 10 cm210\,\text{cm}^2 but different output piston areas: 100 cm2100\,\text{cm}^2 for Jack P and 400 cm2400\,\text{cm}^2 for Jack Q. Each jack is to lift a load of 2000 N2000\,\text{N}. (a) Calculate the force that must be applied on the input piston of Jack P to raise the load. (b) Repeat the calculation for Jack Q. (c) Determine the mechanical advantage offered by each jack and identify which jack provides the larger mechanical advantage. (d) For each jack, find the pressure transmitted through the hydraulic fluid while lifting the load.
