Problem

A metal block of volume 6.0×10−4 m36.0\times10^{-4}\,\text{m}^{3} is fully immersed, one after another, in four different fluids at 25 ∘C25\,^{\circ}\text{C}: Fluid A: pure water at 4 ∘C4\,^{\circ}\text{C} (density 1000 kg m−31000\,\text{kg\,m}^{-3}) Fluid B: pure water at 25 ∘C25\,^{\circ}\text{C} (density 997 kg m−3997\,\text{kg\,m}^{-3}) Fluid C: kerosene (density 800 kg m−3800\,\text{kg\,m}^{-3}) Fluid D: sea-water (density 1030 kg m−31030\,\text{kg\,m}^{-3}) (i) For each fluid, calculate the buoyant force acting on the block. (ii) Arrange the four fluids in ascending order of buoyant force on the block. (iii) Comment briefly on how the small change in water temperature from 4 ∘C4\,^{\circ}\text{C} to 25 ∘C25\,^{\circ}\text{C} affects the buoyant force.
