Problem

Two identical 4.0 kg4.0\,\text{kg} blocks are placed separately on surfaces A and B. The coefficients of friction are: Surface A: μs=0.50\mu_s = 0.50, μk=0.32\mu_k = 0.32 Surface B: μs=0.40\mu_s = 0.40, μk=0.35\mu_k = 0.35 A horizontal force is increased slowly from zero to a constant value of 25 N25\,\text{N} and then kept unchanged while each block slides 1.5 m1.5\,\text{m}. Answer the following: (a) Which block begins to slide first? (b) For each block, state the magnitude of the frictional force after motion starts. (c) Determine the work done against friction during the 1.5 m1.5\,\text{m} slide for each block.
