Problem

Capacitors C1=2.0 μFC_1 = 2.0\,\mu\text{F} and C2=6.0 μFC_2 = 6.0\,\mu\text{F} are connected in series between terminals P and Q. A third capacitor C3=3.0 μFC_3 = 3.0\,\mu\text{F} can be connected in parallel with C2C_2 by closing a switch S. Determine the equivalent capacitance between P and Q (a) when S is open and (b) when S is closed.
