Problem

A right circular cylinder has fixed volume V=1000 cm3V=1000\text{ cm}^3. At time tt, its radius is r(t)r(t) centimeters and its height is h(t)h(t) centimeters. (1) Express hh as a function of rr using the volume constraint. (2) When r=5 cmr=5\text{ cm}, the radius is increasing at drdt=0.020 cm/s\dfrac{dr}{dt}=0.020\text{ cm/s}. Calculate dhdt\dfrac{dh}{dt} at that instant. Show each derivation step clearly. (3) The lateral surface area of the cylinder is S=2πrhS=2\pi r h. Determine dSdt\dfrac{dS}{dt} at the same instant (r=5 cmr=5\text{ cm}, drdt=0.020 cm/s\dfrac{dr}{dt}=0.020\text{ cm/s}) using your result from part (b). Include units and interpret the physical meaning of the numerical value you obtain.
