Problem

An artificial satellite is placed in a circular orbit 500 km500\,\text{km} above Earth’s surface. Take Earth’s radius RE=6.4×106 mR_{E}=6.4\times10^{6}\,\text{m} and Earth’s mass ME=6.0×1024 kgM_{E}=6.0\times10^{24}\,\text{kg}. (i) Calculate the orbital radius of the satellite from Earth’s centre. (ii) Determine the speed with which it must move in this orbit. (iii) Find its time period of revolution in minutes. (iv) How many complete revolutions will the satellite make around Earth in one sidereal day (23.93 h)(23.93\,\text{h})?
