Problem

A stone is projected vertically upward from ground level with an initial speed of 24 m/s24\,\text{m/s}. Take the magnitude of acceleration due to gravity as 9.8 m/s29.8\,\text{m/s}^2 and act vertically downward. (i) Calculate the time taken by the stone to reach its highest point. (ii) Determine the maximum height attained above the point of projection. (iii) The stone then falls back to the ground. Find the total time for which the stone remains in air from the instant of projection until it returns to the ground.
