Problem

A discrete random variable XX takes the values 1,2,31,2,3 and 44 with probabilities 2k,  3k,  k2k,\;3k,\;k and 6k6k respectively. Answer the following questions. (i) Find the value of kk so that the above assignments form a probability distribution. (ii) Verify that each individual probability obtained in part (i) lies in the permissible range. (iii) Using the value of kk, calculate P(X≥3)P\big(X\ge 3\big).
