Problem

A moving-coil galvanometer has the following specifications: • Number of turns N=150N = 150 • Rectangular coil size 2.0 cm×3.0 cm2.0\,\text{cm} \times 3.0\,\text{cm} • Uniform radial magnetic field B=0.40 TB = 0.40\,\text{T} • Restoring torque constant k=3.0×10−6 N m rad−1k = 3.0\times10^{-6}\,\text{N m rad}^{-1} • Coil resistance Rg=20 ΩR_g = 20\,\Omega • Full-scale deflection θmax⁡=0.25 rad\theta_{\max} = 0.25\,\text{rad} (i) Determine the current required for full-scale deflection of the galvanometer. (ii) The galvanometer is to be converted into an ammeter of range 5.0 A5.0\,\text{A}. Calculate the value of the shunt resistance to be connected across the coil. (iii) Find the current that will flow through the galvanometer coil when the ammeter shows its full-scale reading.
