Problem
A red laser with a vacuum wavelength of 650nm illuminates a transmission diffraction grating whose slits are 1.50μm apart. The laser beam is incident normally to the grating surface, and the diffracted pattern is observed on a distant screen.
Respond to the following prompts.
(a) Determine the highest integer order of bright maximum that can be observed for this laser with the given grating.
(b) List all of the bright maxima (by order number) that will appear on one side of the central maximum, and briefly explain why no additional orders are possible.
