Problem

An object moves along a straight line as follows: (i) constant positive velocity for 3 s3\,\text{s}, (ii) uniformly comes to rest in the next 2 s2\,\text{s}, (iii) remains at rest for 1 s1\,\text{s}, (iv) then moves backward, attaining a velocity of −4 m s−1-4\,\text{m s}^{-1} uniformly in 2 s2\,\text{s}. Draw the velocity–time graph for the 8 s8\,\text{s} motion and clearly label the intervals of positive, zero and negative acceleration.
