Problem

A resistor of 20 Ω20\,\Omega, an inductor of 0.20 H0.20\,\text{H} and a capacitor of 50 μF50\,\mu\text{F} are connected in series to a sinusoidal source of 150 V150\,\text{V} (r.m.s.). The supply frequency is 50 Hz50\,\text{Hz}. (a) Calculate the resonant frequency (in hertz) of the circuit. (b) Determine the r.m.s. current drawn from the source at the operating frequency of 50 Hz50\,\text{Hz}. (c) State whether the current at 50 Hz50\,\text{Hz} leads or lags the applied voltage and give a brief reason based on your calculations.
