Problem

Answer all parts relating to the position of points on the Cartesian plane. (a) State the sign conditions on the abscissa and ordinate for a point to lie in each of the four quadrants. (b) A point P(x,y)P(x,y) is such that x<0x<0 and y>0y>0. Identify the quadrant in which PP lies and give a brief justification based on the signs of its coordinates. (c) Explain why a point whose coordinates satisfy x<0x<0 and y<0y<0 cannot lie on any axis of the Cartesian plane.
