Problem

An AC source with peak emf 50 V50\,\text{V} drives a series circuit containing a coil of inductance 0.150 H0.150\,\text{H} having internal resistance 12 Ω12\,\Omega and a variable capacitor CC. (i) Derive an expression for the amplitude of current in the circuit as a function of the driving angular frequency ω\omega. (ii) Calculate the value of CC that will make the current amplitude maximum when the source frequency is 60.0 Hz60.0\,\text{Hz}. (iii) If the capacitor that you obtain in part (ii) has a manufacturing tolerance of ±5%\pm5\%, determine the corresponding percentage deviation in the resonant frequency from 60.0 Hz60.0\,\text{Hz}.
