Problem

A satellite of mass 500 kg500\,\text{kg} is launched into a circular orbit at an altitude of 600 km600\,\text{km} above the Earth’s surface. Take Earth’s radius RE=6.4×106 mR_E = 6.4\times10^{6}\,\text{m} and GME=3.986×1014 N m2 ⁣/kgGM_E = 3.986\times10^{14}\,\text{N\,m}^2\!\text{/kg}. (i) Determine the orbital radius of the satellite measured from the centre of the Earth. (ii) Calculate its orbital speed. (iii) Compute the time period of revolution around the Earth.
