Problem

A box is pulled over a level warehouse floor in two successive stages by the same worker using the same rope. (i) In the first stage the box is dragged 5 m5\,\text{m} while the rope exerts a constant force of 60 N60\,\text{N} at 20∘20^{\circ} above the horizontal direction of motion. Calculate the work done by the rope during this stage. (ii) Without any pause, the worker changes the rope direction so that the force of 60 N60\,\text{N} now makes an angle of 40∘40^{\circ} above the horizontal, and pulls the box a further 3 m3\,\text{m} straight ahead. Calculate the work done during this second stage. (iii) Determine the total work done by the worker during the complete 8 m8\,\text{m} displacement.
