Problem

A school swimming pool is a rectangular prism 25 m25\,\text{m} long, 10 m10\,\text{m} wide and 2 m2\,\text{m} deep. Each day, 5%5\% of the water in the pool is lost through evaporation. Every morning the pool is refilled to the original depth using a water supply pipe that delivers water at the constant rate of 20 000 litres per hour20\,000\,\text{litres per hour}. (i) Calculate the volume, in litres, of water that evaporates from the pool in one day. (ii) Determine how long (in hours and minutes) the supply pipe must run each morning to restore the pool to its full capacity. (iii) Find the total volume of water supplied by the pipe over a period of seven consecutive days.
