Problem

The instantaneous current in a series RLCRLC circuit is given by i(t)=I0sin⁡ωti(t) = I_0\sin \omega t. At a certain angular frequency ω\omega the circuit parameters are such that XL=150 ΩX_L = 150\,\Omega and XC=50 ΩX_C = 50\,\Omega while the resistance is 100 Ω100\,\Omega. (i) Write expressions (in terms of I0I_0, ω\omega and tt) for the instantaneous voltages vR(t)v_R(t), vL(t)v_L(t) and vC(t)v_C(t) across each element. (ii) Using a properly labelled qualitative phasor diagram, indicate the relative orientations of VRV_R, VLV_L, VCV_C and the supply voltage VV with respect to the current II. (iii) Calculate the phase angle ϕ\phi between VV and II and state whether the circuit is overall inductive or capacitive at this frequency. (iv) Estimate the time difference (in microseconds) between the peaks of the current and the supply voltage when the applied frequency is 1.0 kHz1.0\,\text{kHz}.
