Problem

Water fills a cylindrical tank of cross-sectional area 0.60 m20.60\,\text{m}^2. A small circular hole of area 1.0×10−4 m21.0\times10^{-4}\,\text{m}^2 is drilled in the bottom. Take g=9.8 m s−2g = 9.8\,\text{m s}^{-2}. (i) When the water level is 1.44 m1.44\,\text{m} above the hole, calculate the speed with which water emerges from the hole. (ii) At the same moment, find the rate at which the water level is falling in the tank (give dh/dt\mathrm d h/\mathrm d t in m s−1\text{m s}^{-1}).
