Problem

A ventilation duct for an auditorium has a rectangular cross-section. In one part of the duct the cross-sectional dimensions are 60 cm×40 cm60\,\text{cm}\times40\,\text{cm}; farther along the duct it is 30 cm×h cm30\,\text{cm}\times h\,\text{cm}. Air flows steadily through the duct at 12 m s−112\,\text{m\,s}^{-1} in the larger section and at 32 m s−132\,\text{m\,s}^{-1} in the smaller section. (i) Calculate the value of hh. (ii) Find the volume of air (in m3\text{m}^3) delivered by the smaller section in 10 s10\,\text{s}.
