Problem

Consider four positions on a treasure map, each described in words: (i) Point PP is 22 units left of the yy-axis and 33 units above the xx-axis. (ii) Point QQ is 55 units right of the yy-axis and 33 units above the xx-axis. (iii) Point RR is 55 units right of the yy-axis and 44 units below the xx-axis. (iv) Point SS is 22 units left of the yy-axis and 44 units below the xx-axis. Answer the following: (a) Write the coordinates of the points P, Q, RP,\,Q,\,R and SS. (b) Without using any distance formula, state whether PQRSPQR S forms a rectangle. Give reasons referring only to equal abscissae or equal ordinates wherever required. (c) Write the name of the quadrant (or axis) in which each point lies.
