Problem

A household lighting circuit is protected by a 5 A fuse and is connected to a 230 V supply. (i) Determine the minimum resistance of an electric appliance that can be safely operated without blowing the fuse. (ii) For an appliance whose resistance is exactly this minimum value, calculate the power drawn from the supply. (iii) Explain why connecting an appliance of lower resistance than the value found in part (i) would cause the fuse to blow.
