Problem

A capacitor of capacitance 5.0 μF5.0\,\mu\text{F} is connected across a 230 V230\,\text{V} (rms) domestic supply operating at 60 Hz60\,\text{Hz}. Answer the following. (i) Calculate the capacitive reactance at 60 Hz60\,\text{Hz}. (ii) Determine the rms current drawn by the capacitor. (iii) The household wishes to run the same capacitor at a frequency where its reactance drops to 200 Ω200\,\Omega. Keeping the capacitance unchanged, calculate the frequency required to obtain this reactance.
