Problem

A series circuit is connected to a 500 Hz500\,\text{Hz} supply of negligible internal resistance. The component values are L=150 mHL=150\,\text{mH} and C=2 μFC=2\,\mu\text{F}. (a) Calculate the inductive reactance of the coil. (b) Calculate the capacitive reactance of the capacitor. (c) State, with reason, which reactance dominates at this frequency. (d) Keeping the frequency fixed at 500 Hz500\,\text{Hz}, determine the value of capacitance that must be inserted in place of the given capacitor so that the numerical values of the two reactances become equal.
