Problem

A 0.150 kg0.150\,\text{kg} hockey puck slides across nearly friction-free ice at 10.0 m/s10.0\,\text{m/s} due east and collides with an identical puck that is initially at rest. After the brief interaction the first puck is observed to travel at 7.00 m/s7.00\,\text{m/s} directed 30∘30^{\circ} north of east. The second puck remains on the horizontal ice surface. During the collision the influence of any external horizontal forces is negligible. (a) Calculate the east–west and north–south components of the momentum of the first puck after the collision. (b) Determine the corresponding momentum components of the second puck just after the collision. (c) Find the magnitude of the velocity of the second puck and state the direction of its motion with respect to due east.
