Problem

Consider a right circular cone with vertical height hh and base radius rr. (i) Define the term “slant height” for a right circular cone. (ii) Draw or imagine a cross-section of the cone through its axis. Explain why this cross-section is a right-angled triangle. (iii) Using the fact obtained in part (ii), show that the slant height ll, the radius rr, and the vertical height hh satisfy the relation l2=r2+h2l^{2}=r^{2}+h^{2}.
