Problem

A laboratory a.c. source is connected to a fixed series RLC circuit. The r.m.s current in the circuit is recorded while the frequency of the source is slowly varied. The current is found to attain its maximum value at a frequency of 8.0 kHz. (i) Explain why the impedance of the circuit is minimum at this frequency. (ii) If the inductive reactance at 8.0 kHz is measured to be 80 Ω, calculate the capacitance of the circuit.
