Problem

The centres of the Earth and the Moon are separated by 3.84×108 m3.84\times10^{8}\,\text{m}. Their masses are 6.0×1024 kg6.0\times10^{24}\,\text{kg} and 7.4×1022 kg7.4\times10^{22}\,\text{kg} respectively. Neglecting the effect of all other bodies, determine the distance from the centre of the Earth along the line joining the two centres where a spacecraft would experience zero net gravitational field intensity. Give your answer to two significant figures. Take G=6.67×10−11 N m2/kg2G = 6.67\times10^{-11}\,\text{N m}^2\text{/kg}^2.
