Problem

Ravi walks in two straight-line stages during his morning exercise. (i) Define distance and displacement. State one difference between them. (ii) Ravi first walks 120 m due south from point O. Starting again from point O, he then walks 160 m due east. Using the scale 1 cm = 40 m, draw separate vectors from point O to represent each stage of Ravi’s walk. Label each vector clearly. (iii) Without finding any resultant, explain how your diagram shows that displacement is a vector quantity while distance is not.
