Problem
A refracting telescope is to be designed with an objective of focal length 80cm. It is required to provide an angular magnification of −8 in normal adjustment.
(i) Find the focal length of the eyepiece to be used.
(ii) Compute the separation between the objective and the eyepiece under this condition.
(iii) When the telescope is directed towards the Moon, whose actual angular diameter subtended at the Earth is 0.5∘, determine the angular diameter of the final image seen through the telescope (give only the magnitude).
