Problem

A metal plate of mass 0.20 kg0.20\,\text{kg} falls vertically through a uniform magnetic field of 0.60 T0.60\,\text{T} such that the field is perpendicular to the plane of the plate. After a short time it reaches a steady terminal speed of 3.0 m s−13.0\,\text{m\,s}^{-1}. Calculate the rate at which thermal energy is produced in the plate at terminal speed. Take g=9.8 m s−2g = 9.8\,\text{m\,s}^{-2}.
